Welcome to San Francisco

Ah, the things nosotros do for Cupid…

After I met and fell in love with El Hub, I wanted to exist closer to him, so I left my favorite urban center of San Francisco and moved the 10 miles due north beyond the Golden Gate Bridge to the suburbs of Marin.

I similar it hither, but I'thousand a metropolis girl at center. I miss SF'due south humming beauty scene, and the city's diversity, restaurants, museums and clubs.

Fisherman's Wharf
Don't forget to wear layers (it can exist cold past the water)

1. Fisherman's Wharf

Yup, information technology's super cheesy and touristy (lots of tchotchke stores), only information technology'due south well worth doing at least one time. Exist sure to…

  • Finish and watch the sea lions at Pier 39
  • Take hold of a quick bite to eat at Pier Marketplace eating place (attempt the clam chowder and crab cakes)
  • Visit the charming elizabethW fragrance boutique for some unique scents
  • Clear your thoughts at Crown & Crumpet over afternoon tea
  • Refuel with a cupcake from Kara's

2. Shop till you drop

Union Foursquare has some of the best beauty shopping in the city, and it's all within walking distance.

Bring your credit carte (and a good dose of willpower) because they squeezed enough of shopping into Union Square. You'll notice… Nordstrom (my fave!), Bloomingdales, Saks 5th Avenue, Macy's, Neiman Marcus (grab lunch at the Rotunda eatery if you're in the mood to splurge), Sephora and Barneys.

3. Benefit by the water

The upscale Marina district rests at the base of the Gold Gate Span. With lots of shopping and restaurants, parking can be a pain. Come up prepared to wait for a infinite and walk a while if you come up by motorcar.

Here you lot'll discover the Benefit Cosmetics store. It offers brow tinting and waxing. Later, swing past the MAC Pro store for lots of unique MAC products unavailable at regular counters (Annotation: Y'all don't need a MAC Pro card to store at their pro stores).

4. Hit the outer avenues for museums and a breath of fresh air

The Sunset and Richmond districts, located at the outer edges of San Francisco (virtually the ocean), are rich in culture and nature.

Escape the traffic for a few hours with a trip through Golden Gate Park…

  • Take the kids to the Academy of Sciences to see dinosaurs, bounding main life, botanical exhibits and lessons on California history.
  • Ditch the fog with a visit to the Solarium of Flowers
  • Explore the gargantuan deYoung Museum (current home of King Tut, fun!)
  • Skip forth stone walkways at the Japanese Tea Gardens

In the Richmond…

  • Hike the Land's Finish (it's an easy walk with epic views of the Marin Headlands and Golden Gate Bridge)
  • Stroll through Sutro Heights Park and explore the Sutro Ruins

v. Skilful food and fun

When I worked in SF, I loved passing through the ferry edifice. Located in the Embarcadero almost SF's Fiscal District, it's where the ferries connecting Sausalito, Larkspur and Tiburon (cities northward of the Golden Gate Span) make it and depart. It's packed with restaurants and shops galore.

  • At the Farmer's Market, you lot'll find lots of fresh produce and fantastic photo ops forth the h2o
  • Grab a cupcake at Miette
  • Fill up up on spring rolls and Vietnamese coffee at Out the Door
  • Browse the books at Book Passage
  • Hop on a ferry over to Marin for a fun day trip to Affections Island (the Ellis Island of the W), Tiburon (take hold of a potable at Sam's Anchor Cafe and lunch in Rooney'south) or Sausalito. Bring your photographic camera to take hold of phenomenal views of the city from across the Bay

half-dozen. Get loose

Effort a spa. I like the Elation Spa in the West Hotel and accept also heard smashing things about the Nob Loma Spa.

7. Sing your middle out at Martuni'south Pianoforte Bar

Bring your courage, your inner American Idol and some sheet music if you take information technology! Martuni's is similar a karaoke bar with live piano music. Kicking back and enjoy the evidence over delish drinks. The servers are nice and the atmosphere lively. After taking singing lessons a few years ago, my instructor had me perform here i night with my classmates for the "final." And then terrifying but lots of fun! 🙂

8. Canto do Brasil!

Canto do Brasil serves delicious Brazilian food (beans and rice, plantains, barbecue craven and fish, yum!) at decent prices, and y'all fifty-fifty get a show with dinner. Nights are similar Carnival! Hawt Brazilian showgirls dressed in costume dance around the tables, and they even encourage patrons to participate.

When I went with friends a few years agone, information technology took a few minutes to adjust to the scenery (having girls shade their appurtenances in jeweled thongs and feathered headdresses), only information technology'southward quite a show.

nine. Stairway to Heaven

The Filbert Steps are a hidden San Francisco precious stone. Caryatid yourself for a seriously steep climb, only the reward's a fantastic panoramic view of the Bay. Bring your camera, bottled water and a comfy pair of shoes, and keep your eyes peeled for the famous wild parrots of Telegraph Hill.

Author William Saroyan one time said, "If you're alive, you lot can't be bored in San Francisco." He as well said, "If you lot're not alive, San Francisco volition bring yous to life." 🙂
